He served as a voting member on the Nomination Committee in 2017. He chaired the Estes Park Crossroads Endowment Foundation as President from 2017 to 2021. Dan believes his 45+ years of his faith journey has built a solid foundation of trust, wisdom from the Holy Spirit within him, and a discerning spirit to know, listen and understand the needs of the Christ-following members of the church.
Elder
My wife, Annie, and I have been members of Rocky Mountain Church since 2015. I served a three-year term as an Elder at Rocky from 2017 through 2020. I retired from YMCA of the Rockies in January 2023 after a 42+ year career. Annie is a semi-retired Speech Therapist at EP Health. Our home is in the back of The Retreat, below Glen Haven. Annie and I both grew up in very committed Christian families and have both dedicated our lives to Christian service.
I consider my spiritual gifts to be Mercy, Serving and Administration. I was born into a very close-knit extended family of strong Christians. My great grandfather was a Methodist Circuit Rider, riding on horseback to pastor churches across south Texas. My uncle was a Baptist missionary, and my parents and grandparents were all very involved in local church ministry. I know that I was a regular topic of prayer for most of my extended family. Looking back, I have no doubt that God’s hedge of protection was surrounding me, and that the Holy Spirit was guiding me. From my earliest memories, there has not been a time in my life when I did not have a strong belief in and reliance upon Jesus Christ. My faith has been tested many times and my profession of faith has been reaffirmed both personally and publicly on many occasions.
Throughout my life, I have always been involved in ministry and church administration, having served in the following capacities: Elder, Deacon, Finance Committee Member, Buildings & Grounds Committee Member, Children’s Choir Member, Youth Choir Member, Adult Choir Member. I was Co-Director of Estes Valley Caring Pregnancy Center for two years. During college I was Chaplain for a hospital burn unit.
I am honored to serve as an Elder at Rocky once again.

I was born in Nottingham, England in 1943, and then grew up at Capernwray Hall (the castle where my dad founded the ministry of Torchbearers).
In S. Carolina I married Bonnie Barrows in 1976 with the plan to go back and lead the ministry at Capernwray.
After the service Stuart Briscoe who left England to become a pastor of a large church in Wisconsin asked me what I was going to do now. He was my spiritual hero, and all that I wasn’t – I told him that I had tickets back to England, however not sure if that was truly what I wished to do.
He then invited me to join him as an associate pastor in Wisconsin! I was thrilled and taken aback- four wonderful years later I reluctantly responded to my dad’s invitation to become the Director of Ravencrest Chalet in Estes Park – a bump on a hill in Colorado!
I told him that I would go for two years! It is now 46 years, three boys and nine grandies later! After directing Ravencrest for twenty great years, I assumed the role of the International Director of Torchbearers, with the now twenty six Centers around the world. I retired from this position in 2001.
